$350.00 $325.00

Most do-it-yourself tiny house builders say that taking an educational workshop is the single best investment they made in their house. Learn to build your tiny house safely, affordably, and wisely from Dee Williams, who has taught thousands to construct their home with their own two hands. Our workshop is located in Portland, Oregon, the tiny house capital of America, and you’ll learn all about:

  • Tiny house construction basics, including how to properly anchor a stick-built structure to a trailer.
  • Tiny house building science, including moisture control, ventilation, heating, and cooling.
  • Tiny house systems, including electrical, gas, and water systems.
  • Codes, insurance, and regulations.
  • Parking options and pocket communities – how to create the place you’ll call home.
  • And a guided tour of the Caravan Tiny House Hotel to see multiple tiny houses in person.

Whether you’ve never swung a hammer or you’re a conventional construction professional who wants to learn the unique requirements of building small and on wheels, this workshop is for you! Leave confident and empowered, understanding all the options for your design, how you’ll connect with the resources you’ll need to get the job done, and knowing that your dream is possible!

About Your Instructors

Dee Williams is one of the most experienced tiny house educators in the world. She’s been teaching DIY tiny house builders to build their own homes since 2008, back when most people had never even heard of them. She built her first tiny house in 2004, has built custom houses for others, and now educates and speaks on her own story and the tiny house movement all over the world. Her signature wit, heart and candor make the workshop’s technical content easily digestible, and she encourages participants to discover and design for their own unique needs.

Dee is regularly joined by friends and partners who can offer their own expertise, including:

  • PAD co-owner Joan Grimm, who has hosted a tiny house in her homemade pocket community since 2013.
  • Shelter Wise tiny house designer and builder Derin Williams, one of the first custom tiny house builders in America.
  • Rob from Iron Eagle Trailers, who brings along a PAD Series Tiny House Trailer built specifically for tiny houses on wheels.

What Are PAD Workshops Like?

Our participants overwhelmingly agree they’d recommend our workshop to a friend, but here’s what they have to say in their own words:

Just the right balance of enthusiastic support; pragmatic advice about very real issues like zoning, codes and how to construct a safe and sound house; and a wellspring of experience and expertise, all very helpful for planning, building and living long-term in a tiny house.

We are exploring tiny houses, and whether we choose to build one or not, we believe this workshop was a wise investment!
Amelia and Josh
Unbelievably positive learning experience. Participants came from around the world and I had the opportunity to learn about their lives as well as the experience and brilliance of all the presenters.
Lorraine McKenzie
By the time the day was over, I had learned about the tools I would need, gained a better understanding of the process, understood what it feels like to work on a project like this, and learned about some of the challenges and methods of dealing with them.
I thought I would be bored because I felt I had a lot of building experience, but the stories shared and knowledge of the various topics were fantastic!
