The Cider Box: A Spacious, Flexible Design to Make Your Own
Our friends at Shelter Wise designed the Cider Box Tiny House to fit a whole lot of house in a compact package with many customizable options. This set includes plans for a 20 foot house and a 24 foot house, and the renderings below demonstrate how you can make the design your own with rustic, modern or economic finish materials to fit your style and budget.
The non-traditional “double shed” roof line adds more space, dimension and intrigue, and clears the way for light to stream in through strategically placed clerestory windows, optional skylights, and full glass doors. It’s a great design for couples and small families because it can accommodate two separate sleeping lofts, a full kitchen, and space for laundry. The 20 foot design is 148 square feet on the main floor with a 65 square foot main loft and 30 square foot small loft. The 24 foot design is 179 square feet on the main floor with an 84 square foot and a 30 square foot loft.
The Cider Box Plans are your path to the spacious, beautiful, and bright space you’ve been waiting to call home!

The plan set includes two renderings showing examples of different exterior styles you can achieve with these plans. When choosing a trailer for the Cider Box 20′ or 24′, Shelter Wise recommends 7000 lb axles each, for a 14,000 lb total carrying capacity. The trailer will still carry at 10,000 lb GVWR (Gross vehicle weight rating) but will travel better and safer with higher rated axles. Iron Eagle Trailers builds our favorite tiny house trailers out there, and Derin from Shelter Wise and Dee from PAD even helped them design their trailers to be perfect for tiny homes. Tell them PAD sent you, and you’ll get $50 off your order.
With all of our plans, we recommend a copy of Go House Go, our how-to manual for building a tiny house on wheels. It’s the book Dee wished existed when she built her little house, and she wrote it to save everybody else all the time and trouble that she went through to figure out how to build smart and safe.
