How do two people share a tiny house? Tammy Strobel and Logan Smith manage just fine, as do their two cats. PAD designed and built the tiny house they moved into in 2011, and lived in for several years. Their journey began in 2005 in California, where Tammy and Logan found themselves swimming in a sea of high debt and stressful jobs. They were determined to change that equation, get rid of their cars, change their jobs, and ultimately live in a tiny house smaller (and cuter) than a parking space.
Tammy and Logan have been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, The Today Show, Home and Garden TV, MSNBC, CNN, Oregon Public Broadcasting and dozens of local television, radio, and podcast programs. Tammy is the author of “You Can Buy Happiness (And it's Cheap)”, and leads e-courses on simple living.
Tammy says: "My husband Logan and I lived a normal middle class, American lifestyle. We were newlyweds with flashy rings, living in a two-bedroom apartment, driving two cars, commuting long distances to work and stressed out from living well beyond our means.
I knew that I was really fortunate and privileged to have what I had. Not everyone has a safe place to live and the ability to buy food and all of those things, but still I was frustrated. To solve the problems of stress, debt, and frustration we decided to simplify.
Eight years later, we’re living in a tiny house and we’re debt free. I’m a writer and photographer, so now I’m just doing work that I really love and that resonates with me. With lower expenses I just have a lot more time and space to not only engage in work that I like, but also to spend time with the people that matter most."
